Introduction
I'm developing a sitcom.
It's new territory for me. For five years, I was a professional standup comedian - until a global pandemic grounded me. In that time, I developed four full solo shows which I performed at festivals and small tours. I adore those shows. They're my proudest achievements by far.
I've written screenplays, I've written and performed filmed sketches, I've had small roles in sitcoms - I've had the nagging feeling for years that I'd enjoy developing my own sitcom.
But, pfft, sitcoms take ages to develop. Nothing like the instant gratification of writing new standup! You can think of an idea, write a routine, edit, rehearse, and finally perform it in front of an audience in a matter of hours. Sitcoms are long and slow.
Except ... then I had this idea. I think it's a really good one! A concept for a show that I really want to make. I think people would like it.
It's been quietly bubbling away for a few months, and now I'm starting the work in earnest. I'm going to document that process - and right now, I have no idea where it'll lead! No idea how likely it is to get made, or in what form, or by whom. This might be the story of glorious success, or of complete failure.
Let's see how this goes.
